Raise of school librarians status to teacher level is suggested in Kyrgyzstan

AKIPRESS.COM - School libraries in Kyrgyzstan need improvements and introduction of information technologies, Minister of Education and Science Almazbek Beishenaliev said at the First Forum of School Librarians today in Bishkek.
Libraries are future of children and they should become centers of development of children, the Education Minister said.
"The First Forum of Librarians is the first step towards such goals. Books influence education of children. Work of librarians is important for each child and the state on the whole. School librarians did not receive proper attention for 40 years. This attitude should be changed," the Minister said.
The Education Minister suggested to raise status of school librarians to teacher level and formalize this status in a law.
Over 200 school librarians from all regions of the country and specialists of local education departments are participating in the Forum.
The aim of the Forum is creation of the platform for professional exchange between librarians, school library and information center workers for improvement of their professionalism, improvement of library management through introduction of innovations.
