Toktogul dam water level reached critical point: Minister

AKIPRESS.COM - The water level in the Toktogul reservoir is approaching a dangerous level, Minister of Energy and Industry Kubanychbek Turdubaev said on March 30 at a meeting of the parlaiment committee.
Today's level stands at 8.7 billion cubic meters, which is critically low, he said.
"We're trying to keep this level. But we did not come to this in one year. It took 4-5 years to get to this point. The main problem is annual water inflow of 12 billion cubic meters, while we needed 14.5 billion cubic meters annually," he said.
For 2020, Kyrgyzhydromet forecasted an inflow of water of 96%, but in fact there was only 90%, he added.
