Uzbekistan to prosecute those 'insulting President' online

AKIPRESS.COM - Insulting or defaming the President of Uzbekistan on Internet or in telecommunication networks will be punished with correctional labor up to 3 years, or from 2 to 5 years of freedom restriction, or up to 5 years in prison.
The respective changes were incorporated in the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Justice reported.
On March 30, President Mirziyoyev signed the amendments and additions to certain legislative acts suggesting prosecution for offending the head of state.
The amendments also foresee criminal sanctions for public calls for disorders and violence against citizens.
Those found guilty of public calls for mass disorders and violence against citizens will be fined from $2,000 to $6,000, or will face correctional service for up to 2 years, or restriction of freedom from 3 to 5 years or from 3 to 5 years in prison.
The same actions by a group of people with use of mass media, telecommunication networks, Internet, printing will be punished with the fine of $6,000-$8,000, or with correctional labor from 2 to 3 years or from 5 to 10 years in prison.
