AKIPRESS.COM - A protest against violence against women was held in front of the city police department in Osh on April 8, Turmush reported.
More than 30 activists participated in the action. They demanded proactive actions from police and strong engagement with local communities.
Police department vice cheif Ashim Raimberdiev met with protesters. He told police undertake all necessary actions to prevent crimes and are always ready for cooperation with civil society.
The protest action was held in connection with high-profile case of abduction and murder of Aizada Kanatbekova. She was forcibly put into a car by a group of men in the morning of April 5 in Bishkek. Her body was found in a car outside Bishkek two days later by a local shepherd. Her abductor strangled Aizada with a T-shirt and then killed himself, police said. The case caused nation-wide public outcry. Police are accused of inaction and negligence in the case.
