AKIPRESS.COM - The investigation into the June 2010 events has resumed, the National Security Committee reported on April 16. In accordance with the order of the president, investigation into power abuse was resumed against officials of the interim government for facilitating the unimpeded fleeing of Kadyrjan Batyrov from the country, the statement said,
"This was one of the reasons that led to the tragic consequences in May-June 2010 in the south of the country," the statement said.
"The investigation will look into the causes and conditions that contributed to the beginning of the mass unrest in Osh and Jalal-Abad regions in May-June 2010 and come up with the final legal assessment of the actions of members of the interim government, heads of security agencies and regional officials who did not take proper measures to prevent the tragic events," the statement said.
Ex-MP Kadyrjan Batyrov died at the age of 62 in Ukraine in 2018. Batyrov was born on March 9, 1956 in Jalal-Abad. He was the leader of the Uzbek community in Kyrgyzstan. Batyrov fled Kyrgyzstan after deadly clashes between ethnic Uzbeks and Kyrgyz in Kyrgyzstan's southern regions of Osh and Jalal-Abad in June 2010. He was sentenced to life in prison in absentia by the Supreme Court of Kyrgyzstan for inciting to ethnic hatred and organization of mass riots in 2010. He received political asylum in Sweden in 2011.
