Kyrgyz-Tajik gunfire: Situation in Batken region on April 30 morning stable

AKIPRESS.COM - As of April 30 morning, the situation in Batken region on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border is reported stable, according to the Batken Department of Internal Affairs. Reinforced operation mode is in force in three rural municipalities of Aksai, Ak-Tatir, and Samarkandek.
First Deputy Interior Minister Suyun Omurzakov is in Batken to coordinate the current situation of law enforcement and internal troops in the region and to maintain public order.
Police officers have evacuated residents of the villages of Kulundu, International, Eski Oochu, Maksat, Jashtyk, Borborduk, Dostuk and Arka-2 in the Leilek district to safer places.
Current situation in the border area is under full control. Police officers have set up roadblocks and are working with local population. Protection of public order is carried out in a reinforced regime, police said.
Tensions on the border of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan escalated on April 28-29 and exchange of fire occurred between the military units of two sides.
13 Kyrgyz citizens were killed, including a 12-year-old girl. At least 134 Kyrgyzstanis were injured.
