Putin ready to act as mediator in resolution of Kyrgyz-Tajik border conflict - Peskov

AKIPRESS.COM - President Vladimir Putin is ready to act as mediator in resolution of the conflict between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, Kremlin press secretary Dmitry Peskov told reporters. "Definitely, in view of our ties in various formats, including CSTO and other, President Putin is always ready to play a role of mediator in resolution of critical problems that may arise between the participating countries. He has demonstrated that repeatedly," Peskov said when asked about possible participation of the Russian President in conflict resolution.
Tensions escalated on the border of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan on April 28-29. The troops from both sides exchanged fire. The agreement on ceasefire was reached by the evening of April 29. At least 13 Kyrgyz citizens died and 134 were wounded as a result of the conflict.
