AKIPRESS.COM - The former press secretary of the President of Uzbekistan and current chairman of the board of trustees of the National Mass Media Support Foundation, Komil Allamjonov, said the conflict between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan was regulated as a result of personal intervention of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
"The President of Uzbekistan talked with each of the Presidents and reconciliation was achieved," Allamjonov said on his social media page.
"Our neighbors have reached agreement. The President of Uzbekistan demonstrated himself as the most reputed person having influence in Central Asia, as the leader able to stabilize the situation," he added.
Allamjanov suggested the changes in relations of Uzbekistan with the neighboring countries, establishment of friendly ties for the last several years, have helped resolution of the crisis.
Tensions on the border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan escalated on April 28-29. The both sides exchanged fire leading to casualties and destructions. At least 31 citizens of Kyrgyzstan died and 154 were wounded as a result of the conflict. Tajik media reported over 90 Tajik citizens were wounded and around 10 died. The Tajik authorities did not provide official information on casualties yet.
The President of Uzbekistan held phone conversations with both presidents yesterday. The Presidents of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan discussed the ways to regulate border crisis later. Rahmon invited Japarov to visit Dushanbe in the second half of May.
