AKIPRESS.COM - The government has prepared a document to assign Batken region a special status, Prime Minister Ulukbek Maripov said at a meeting with residents of Kok-Tash (Tort Kocho), Sada, Arka-2, and Maksat villages of Batken region affected by the armed attack by Tajik servicemen.
"The relevant decision has been signed by me and forwarded to the parliament for consideration. As soon as it is adopted, the Batken region will receive a special status, which implies tax preferences in the first place," the government's press service quoted Maripov as saying.
He also said that new houses will be built for all those whose houses were destroyed or burned down.
"It's preliminarily about 30 houses in the Batken district and 70 in the Leilek district. Now the commission is counting the damages and as soon as it finishes its work, construction will begin. We have to complete all the work before the cold weather," Maripov said.
Maripov added that work on the delimitation and demarcation of the state border is currently underway.
As a result of the clashes at the border, at least 36 Kyrgyz citizens were killed, including 33 civilians and 3 soldiers.
At least 104 houses, 2 schools, one feldsherly dispensary, one kindergarten, one Ministry of Internal Affairs building (police station), 3 border outposts, 10 gas stations and 8 shops were burned down in the region, Batken region government reported on May 3 citing preliminary data.
