AKIPRESS.COM - The Chairman of Ezgulik Human Rights Society, Abdurahmon Tashanov, visited the Zangiota prison in Tashkent region on May 5, where he met with former Prosecutor General Rashijon Kadyrov and former State Security Service Chairman Ihtiyor Abdullaev.
Rashijon Kadyrov was sentenced to 10 years in prison in June 2019. Ihtiyor Abdullaev was sentenced to 19 years in prison in February 2020.
Abdurahmon Tashanov said he visited the prison as member of the commission for constitutional human rights and freedoms.
The commission made its first visit to the prison on May 5, where the prison terms are served by former workers of law enforcement agencies. The commission was set up by the Parliament and it is headed by the Ombudsman.
"At first it was hard to distinguish Rashijon Kadyrov among other prisoners. They all had face masks. I asked for a meeting with him from the prison administration. He looks well. 'I have good health and good mood. I will be transferred to the penal settlement in a month,' he said. I talked to former Prosecutor General for 10 minutes," Abdurahmon Tashanov said.
Rashijon Kadyrov was General Prosecutor of Uzbekistan for 15 years. He was arrested on 22 February 2018 and was handed 10-year prison sentence by the Tashkent Court on 26 June 2019. Kadyrov was found guilty of bribery, mediation in bribery, tax evasion and money laundering.
"Ihtiyor Abdullaev told me he was tortured during investigation. He said he does not has any claims for the prison administration now. 'I just wanted by case to be reconsidered. If possible, pass this request to the President,' he told me. I talked to Ihtiyor Abdullaev while he was at his work place. He is drawing flowers on porcelain dishes," Abdurahmon Tashanov said.
On 25 February 2020, the military court of Uzbekistan sentenced former Prosecutor General and ex-Chairman of State Security Service Ihtiyor Abdullaev to 19 years in prison. Ihtiyor Abdullaev was found guilty of organization of the crime community, bribery, signing deals detriment to the interests of Uzbekistan, extortion, theft of property, large-scale violation of customs legislation in the interests of organized crime community abusing his power.
