Situation in Batken as of May 8 stable, Tajik border guard patrol in Arka-1 removed

AKIPRESS.COM - As of May 8 morning, the situation in all districts and villages of Batken region and on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border is stable, said the Interior Ministry of the Kyrgyz Republic. On May 7 evening, the Border Service of Kyrgyzstan reported that the Tajik side tried to put a border guard on the border area in the village of Arka-1 in the Leilek district of Batken region.
The Kyrgyz border guards demanded the removal of the patrol from not demarcated border area and the Tajik side complied with the Kyrgyz side's demands.
Regarding the video circulating on social networking sites about strawberry smuggling, the Border Service reports said a citizen of Tajikistan tried to sell 10 kg of strawberries in Maksat village of Leilek district of Batken region on May 7. However, the border guards of Tajikistan themselves stopped the illegal activities of the citizen of Tajikistan. At the same time, counteracting smuggling activities on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border is currently carried out by both government agencies and residents of the border regions of Kyrgyzstan.
