AKIPRESS.COM - A brawl occurred between residents of border villages of Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan on May 13.
Residents of Say village of Batken region and Chashma village of Sokh district of Uzbekistan had a fight.
Residents of the two settlements gathered in the border area. Representatives of law enforcement agencies and local authorities of the two countries arrived on the spot. Awareness-raising activities were conducted with the population. The law enforcement agencies of Sokh and Batken districts are conducting an investigation into the incident.
Head of the Batken district Uchkun Jorobekov said that livestock belonging to residents of the Uzbek village had crossed into Kyrgyz territory.
"Members of the family - a woman and her son, citizens of Kyrgyzstan - reported this to the residents of Chashma village so that they took the cattle back. A conflict occurred meanwhile. But it was not a large scale brawl. According to preliminary information, the citizen of Uzbekistan beat two residents of Say village and then fled to his own territory. At the moment the heads of Aidarken and Sokh border guard units and the heads of local authorities are carrying awareness raising work with the population," said the district head.
According to the local government of Batken region, as of 3 p.m. the residents of the two border villages dispersed. The participants in the conflict had reconciled. At the same time, the incident is being investigated.
The administration of the region assesses the situation in the border area as stable.
