New Muslim leader of Kyrgyzstan to be elected on May 21

AKIPRESS.COM - Election of the Mufti is scheduled for May 21, said the Ulema Council.
Six candidates passed the selection round - Nurbek Toktogulov, Sultanali Gapurov, Shukur Ismailov, Nematilla Jeenbekov, Niyazali Aripov, and Ubaidulla Sarybaev.
Former Mufti Maksatbek Toktomushev resigned on February 10 after a scandal involving the illegal use of pilgrims' money.
He was detained the same day.
On the night of February 12 the Pervomaisky district court released him under house arrest.
