AKIPRESS.COM - President of Kazakhstan Kasym-Jomart Tokayev held virtual talks with World Health Organization Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. Prospects of strengthening cooperation between Kazakhstan and WHO, COVID-19 response were discussed during the online talks.
President Tokayev briefed the WHO Director-General about the actions undertaken by Kazakhstan to combat coronavirus infection.
A special attention was paid to vaccination against COVID-19. President Tokayev informed the WHO Director-General about preliminary results of clinical trials of Kazakhstan-made QazVac vaccine, which efficacy rate reached 96%. The documents were submitted to WHO for approval of the vaccine, President Tokayev said.
2 million vaccinated is a high rate now, many countries have not reached it yet. The ambitious plan to vaccinate 55% of population deserves respect, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said.
The WHO Director-General welcomed development of QazVac vaccine and expressed readiness to consider its possible inclusion into the list of medications recommended by WHO for emergency use.
President Tokayev offered the WHO Director-General to launch One Health pilot project in Kazakhstan with perspective of creation of the Central Asian center for disease control and biosecurity.
