World Bank to purchase Covid-19 vaccines included into COVAX program

AKIPRESS.COM - The COVAX program includes 6 coronavirus vaccines, Minister of Health and Social Development Alymkadyr Beishenaliev said at the meeting of the Budget and Finances Committee of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan on May 31.
The World Bank will purchase the vaccines included into COVAX program, the Health Minister said.
"This program incudes Sinopharm. Sputnik V is expected to receive WHO approval as well. We will receive over 400,000 doses of coronavirus vaccine as humanitarian aid," Health Minister Beishenaliev added.
The Budget and Finances Committee of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan is considering a draft letter-agreement between Kyrgyzstan and the International Development Association concerning changes in the financing agreement for Emergency COVID-19 Response Project.
The World Bank will provide $10 million loan at 0.75% and $10 million grant as additional financing for the project.
The main objectives of additional financing and restructuring of the project are ensuring equal and equitable access to coronavirus vaccines.
The maturity period of the loan is 38 years, including 6-year grace period.
