AKIPRESS.COM - President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev today arrived in Surkhandarya region and visited the construction site of the photovoltaic plant in Sherabad district, the president's press service reported.
UAE's Masdar company will build 457 MW plant there. A new substation and 52-km-long power transmission line until Surhon substation will be built under the project.
Masdar will invest $260 million into the project. The annual capacity of the plant will make 1.04 billion kWh.
The solar power plant will allow to save 340 million cbm of natural gas a year. 300,000 households will be supplied with electricity.
1,000 work places will be created during construction of the plant. 120 specialists will work at the solar power plant upon its launch, which is planned in August 2023.
"The opportunity to buy electricity at 1.8 cents for 1 kWh is a big success for our economy and important factor in ensuring well-being for population," President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.
The project is part of construction of solar power plants run by the government of Uzbekistan with support of the Asian Development Bank.
200 MW solar power plants will be built in Samarkand and Jizzakh regions, 100 MW windfarms in Beruni and Karauzak districts of Karakalpakstan, 3 wind farms in Bukhara and Navoi.
Uzbekistan has set the task to boost capacity of solar power plants to 5,000 MW, wind farms to 3,000 MW, hydropower plants to 4,000 MW by 2030.
