AKIPRESS.COM - Drivers of a number of transportation companies in Bishkek refused to drive in the morning of June 2 demanding to raise the fare. This caused a transport standstill in the morning, the citizens could not get to works and schools, trolleybuses and buses were overcrowded.
The strike was planned back on May 3, but was cancelled due to the situation in Batken border.
This is not the first time haulers went on strike. In January 2021, drivers of 3 companies refused to show up on the road. Then, Vostochnyi Express, Dordoi-Trans, and Uzar-West were punished.
On January 19 acting mayor Balbak Tulobayev met with the drivers and promised to solve the fare increase issue before May. The mayor's office has drafted a resolution to increase fares on buses from 10 to 15 soms. The draft resolution will be considered at the next session of the Bishkek city council.
