AKIPRESS.COM - MP Burun Amanova asked the Chairman of the National Bank of Kyrgyzstan Tolkunbek Abdygulov if the regulator plans dedollarization of Kyrgyz economy like in Russia.
Abdygulov said this issue is very pressing. In 2014, 70% of the loan portfolio was in U.S. dollars, and 70% of all deposits were in dollars. According to 2020 results, only 30% of loan portfolio is in U.S. dollars, and 42% of deposit portfolio is in U.S. dollars.
"In general, our work with the government to dedollarize the economy is considered successful," said Abdygulov.
But the Kyrgyz Republic has had a trade economy for the past 20 years, so in this regard, Kyrgyzstan will not be able to abandon the dollar in any case, because Chinese, Turkish suppliers are asking for payments in either the U.S. dollar or the euro.
