Carrot price surges in Kyrgyzstan, Deputy Minister tells why

AKIPRESS.COM - Deputy Minister of Agriculture Ilich Marsbek uulu linked the carrot price surge in Kyrgyzstan to its increased export to Kazakhstan and Russia.
In the first 5 months of 2020 Kyrgyzstan exported 13,000 tons of carrots, while in 2021 the export volume reached 31,000 tons, almost 2.5 times higher than a year ago.
The ministry expects a decline in prices for carrot in the near future.
"This is a seasonal nature," he said, adding that the mass harvest of carrots will begin in early July and carrot prices will go down.
Kyrgyzstan exported 1,087,000 tons of plant products in 2019 and about 1 million tons in 2020.
Sellers in Karakol town, Issyk-Kul region said 1 kg of carrot costs 100 soms. Usually the highest price for carrots was 25 soms annually during this period. The reason for the price increase is the closed borders with other countries, according to sellers. The price for washed carrots is 100 soms per 1 kg, and 95 soms per not washed.
