AKIPRESS.COM - A group of independent experts is warning a surge in the daily coronavirus cases in the next 2 weeks in Kyrgyzstan. Together with the Oxford scientists, this group predicted the 'dark July 2020' when the big number of coronavirus cases and deaths were recorded in Kyrgyzstan daily.
According to the short-term forecast until July 2, some 1,500 new daily cases will be recorded in Kyrgyzstan and 6,707 people will need hospitalization with a total of 16,358 new infected people, the group's researcher, epidemiologist and USAID project specialist Aizhan Dooronbekova told AKIpress.
2,280 of them might have extremely severe and severe forms of the infection. 671 people might need life support.
According to the Ministry of Health, there are 3,437 hospital beds and 346 life support beds. Some of them are already occupied, and it means only 1,268 beds are available. The hospitalized people are kept inpatient for some 14 days, she notes.
The number of health workers contracting the virus is also growing, she noted.
"We have 3 coronavirus development scenarios: best-case, medium and worst-case scenarios. In this forecasting method, we took into account the Indian variant, the so-called Delta virus, which has infectiousness and risk of hospitalization twice as high as the British variant. That is why we focused on the worst-case scenario. According to the forecast for the development of the situation in the regions, a very high increase in the number of new infections is expected in the southern regions and in Bishkek," Dooronbekova said.
"The research team is constantly updating short-term forecasts for two weeks taking into account the epidemiological situation and the daily number of cases. Young people might have Delta virus variant like a severe flu. They may not feel much discomfort, but still be very contagious," the epidemiologist said.
