AKIPRESS.COM - Different COVID-19 variants circulate in Kyrgyzstan. 60% account for UK variant and 39% for Russian variant. Few cases of Indian and South African variants were registered in Kyrgyzstan, State and Epidemiological Department's representative Dinara Otorbaeva said.
She reminded Kyrgyzstan had two coronavirus waves: the first wave was in July 2020, the second wave was in October-November, the third coronavirus wave started in April 2021.
"The first coronavirus wave saw the highest daily coronavirus cases - over 1,600 cases. The second coronavirus wave was more or less stable - more than 600 cases," she said.
Spike in coronavirus cases is caused by disrespect of COVID-19 precautionary measures when people attend mass events, use public transport without masks.
"Last year samples were sent to reference laboratories of the World Health Organization. We found out we have variants that circulate in Russia, Sweden. The first cases were imported from the United Arab Emirates, Oman. We see other COVID-19 variants this year - UK variant. This variant has reached us this year only," Dinara Otorbaeva stated.
