AKIPRESS.COM - Ukhnaa Khurelsukh was sworn in as the 6th President of Mongolia.
Former Mongolian Prime Minister Ukhnaa Khurelsukh became the country's sixth democratically elected president further consolidating the power of the ruling Mongolian People's Party (MPP) with a landslide victory (near 70%).
Inauguration ceremony for the new Mongolian president was held on June 25 in Ulaanbaatar. He has sworn "I swear, in exercising the powers of President of Mongolia, to respect and protect human and civil rights and freedoms, to observe and protect the Constitution of Mongolia, to protect the sovereignty and independence, security and integrity of the state, to faithfully serve the people."
His predecessor Khaltmaa Battulga, was denied an opportunity to seek re-election following changes to Mongolia's constitution that restricted presidents to one term in office, handed him over the State Seal.
Khurelsukh was forced to resign as prime minister after protests earlier this year.
After the inauguration, Khurelsukh delivered a speech in which he promised to further promote democracy and the rule of law in Mongolia.
