AKIPRESS.COM - The Parliament of Kyrgyzstan today has considered the bill on protection from false and inaccurate information developed by the reconciliation group.
The main concept of the bill was aimed at protection of rights and freedoms of every citizen from false and inaccurate information spread in Internet, protection of honor and dignity, reputation of citizens.
"The reconciliation group studied the comments and suggestions received from media companies, civil society, government agencies. The title of the bill was changed for a clearer understanding of the bill. The bill does not restrict freedom of expression, does not introduce censorship. Prohibition on spread of false information is imposed on the basis of petitions of citizens and legal entities," MP Asylbaeva said.
MPs exchanged heated arguments during consideration of this bill today. Several urged their colleagues to vote against the bill, some suggested to support it.
The revised bill was supported with votes of 59 MPs. 38 MPs voted against it. 97 MPs were registered in total. The bill is considered as rejected. The bill needed to gain 61 votes to be passed.
The bill on manipulation of information was returned by President Sooronbai Jeenbekov with objections in summer 2020.
