Kyrgyzstan hopes for effective cooperation with EU through COVAX program

AKIPRESS.COM - Cabinet Vice Chair Jyldyz Bakashova met with Head of EU Delegation to Kyrgyzstan Ambassador Eduard Auer, the government's press service reported.
Relevant aspects of cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and the European Union were considered during the meeting, including cooperation in COVID-19 response.
Jyldyz Bakashova expressed gratitude to the European Union for support provided to country amid coronavirus pandemic.
The Cabinet Vice Chair expressed hope for effective cooperation between the European Union and Kyrgyzstan in vaccination of population against coronavirus infection through COVAX program.
The EU is ready to continued mutually beneficial cooperation in implementation of socio-economic projects and addressing issues related to vaccination, Ambassador Eduard Auer said.
Kyrgyzstan expects donation of 1.2 million doses of coronavirus vaccines through COVAX program.
The first batch of AstraZeneca vaccine was supposed to arrive in Kyrgyzstan in March, but Kyrgyzstan refused from this vaccine then over reported serious side effects.
In late March India imposed ban on export of vaccines. The Kyrgyz government then said vaccines will arrive from South Korea. Later it was announced the talks are in progress on supply of vaccines from Switzerland.
