Presidents of Uzbekistan, Tajikistan discuss situation in Afghanistan

AKIPRESS.COM - President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon held a phone conversation on July 5, the Uzbek president's press service reported. The two leaders discussed relevant issues of bilateral relations, exchanged views on aspects of regional cooperation.
A special attention was paid to development of the situation in the region admid escalation of tensions in Afghanistan. Importance of continued coordination of actions was emphasized.
The Presidents also considered the schedule of upcoming bilateral events, including the consultative meeting of the Central Asian leaders.
It was reported earlier 1,037 Afghan government military personnel retreated to the territory of Tajikistan in the night of July 4-5 after clashes with Taliban fighters. More than 300 personnel crossed the border into Tajikistan under Taliban attack a day before.
