Former Population Registration Department Chief detained in connection with probe into illegal issuance of passports to Turkish nationals

AKIPRESS.COM - The former Chairman of the Population Registration and Vital Records Department under the State Registration Service, Duishon Satybaldiev, was detained, Bishkek police department reported on July 11.
The investigation service of Bishkek police department is investigating abuse of power and corruption schemes in granting citizenship of Kyrgyzstan to nationals of Turkey.
Satybaldiev was taken into detention facility.
Duishon Satybaldiev became Director of the Population Registration and Vital Records Department in June 2013. In 2015, he was dismissed from this post.
The Bishkek police department announced earlier about investigation into illegal issuance of passports of Kyrgyzstan in 2016.
In 2016, the commission for citizenship under the President of Kyrgyzstan led by Farid Niyazov made "illegal decision on granting citizenship to 10 nationals of Turkey."
"The same year, ten nationals of Turkey were granted citizenship of the Kyrgyz Republic by the order of then President Almazbek Atambayev. Passports of the Kyrgyz Republic were issued to them illegally," the Bishkek police department said.
