AKIPRESS.COM - The organizers of the Olympic Games in Tokyo have decided not to hold the traditional parade of nations at the opening ceremony, according to the National Olympic Committee of Belarus,
The decision was made on July 15 at the meeting of the mission chiefs with the IOC President Thomas Bach.
The opening ceremony will take place on July 23 at the national Olympic stadium.
IOC Organizing Committee stands for preserving the health of the athletes in the first place. Limiting the number of participants in the opening ceremony is related to the spread of coronavirus.
Athletes want to participate in the Olympic Games in the first place, and nothing should prevent them from that, the Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee stressed.
It's unclear whether flag-bearers will participate in the opening ceremony.
