Around 200 supporters of MP Jeenbekov gather outside court in Bishkek

AKIPRESS.COM - Around 200 supporters of MP Asilbek Jeenbekov gathered in front of the Pervomaiskiy district court in Bishkek on July 27.
The court will consider the motion of the General Prosecutor's Office asking to extend pre-trial detention of MP Asilbek Jeenbekov, lawyer Kalybek Jamangulov told Tazabek.
The defense will request non-custodial measure, since MP Jeenbekov was detained illegally, the lawyer said.
"As an MP, he has immunity from prosecution," the lawyer added.
According to the new Constitution, an MP may not be prosecuted without consent of the majority of the Parliament, he explained.
On May 31, MP Asilbek Jeenbekov and MP Zulpukarov were taken into custody for 2 months in connection with the Kumtor project probe. The State National Security Committee said earlier the facts of corruption at different stages of Kumtor mine development project are investigated.
