Bishkek, Apr. 18, 2019. / Kabar /. The delegation of the Jogorku Kenesh headed by Speaker Dastanbek Dzhumabekov, within the framework of the Council meeting and the 49th plenary session of the IPA CIS, took part in St. Petersburg in a conference on countering international terrorism, the press service of the Parliament of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.
The initiators of the conference on countering international terrorism were IPA CIS, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, the Inter-Parliamentary Union, and the Counter-Terrorism Office of the United Nations.
The conference participants discussed the role of international institutions in countering terrorism, preventing the use of network technologies to spread extremist ideas, improving legislation to prosecute terrorists and curb the financing of terrorism.
Heads of parliamentary delegations, representatives of international specialized organizations, executive bodies, expert and scientific communities spoke at the conference.
Speaker Dzhumabekov in his speech noted that the Kyrgyz Republic strongly condemns terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. He stated that "in the light of the urgency of the problem of international terrorism, the holding of this conference is another step towards the development of common approaches to this form of global threat."
"Being closely interconnected with other global challenges, and affecting all aspects of public life, international terrorism equally concerns all countries of the world. The main focus of activities and the dissemination of ideas of international terrorism is the region of the Middle East, torn by internal contradictions and protracted conflicts. And this, in turn, represents a serious threat to the security and stability of the entire Central Asian region," he said.
Dzhumabekov stressed that "the propaganda of the ideas of terrorism and extremism is carried out in the Internet space and social networks with the use of a systemic psychological impact, which is most often exposed to representatives of socially vulnerable groups of the population".
He also noted that in the conditions of the modern world, which is already hard to imagine without a global network and e-government, eliminating the threat of cyber-terrorism is a priority task. "Therefore, Kyrgyzstan, in order to counter international terrorism in a bilateral and multilateral format, cooperates with special services and law enforcement agencies of foreign states, the Speaker said.
