Specialists from Central Asian countries get acquainted with system of drug use prevention in Kyrgyzstan

Bishkek, Apr. 26, 2019 / Kabar /. Specialists from the countries of Central Asia familiarized themselves with the system of drug abuse prevention in the State Service for Punishment Execution of Kyrgyzstan, the press service of the department reported.
Central Asia Drug Action Programme (CADAP-6) organized a two day regional conference on drug abuse treatment in prisons and alternatives to imprisonment. The event was attended by experts from government agencies and non-governmental organizations of Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.
The conference included a visit to the women's correctional colony number 2 in the village of Stepnoye. There, the specialists examined the syringe exchange center, the methadone reception room, the Atlantis rehabilitation center and the Clean Zone rehabilitation and social adaptation center, and also familiarized themselves with the history of their creation.
The activities of rehabilitation centers include elements of the Minnesota program for the treatment of chemical dependence, taking into account the long experience of the Atlantis program in Poland and members of the therapeutic group in the treatment of alcoholism and drug addiction.
After successful treatment, the best patients are sent to the Clean Zone Rehabilitation and Social Adaptation Center, where they continue treatment according to a 12-step program with the inclusion of elements of social adaptation (vocational training, occupational therapy) and experts conduct with them a psychocorrection, psychotherapy to restore personal qualities and their return to the community of full-fledged citizens.
