Supreme Court shortens prison term for ex-MP Sadyr Japarov

AKIPRESS.COM - The panel of judges of the Supreme Curt today has shortened the prison term for ex-MP Sadyr Japarov during reconsideration of the case in connection with the new codes enacted since the start of this year. The prison term was shortened from 11 years and 6 months to 10 years in prison.
Japarov was handed 11.6 years in prison by Pervomay district court of Bishkek on August 2, 2017 for murder attempt, coup attempt, hooliganism and taking former governor of Issyk-Kul region Emil Kaptagayev hostage. Bishkek city court and Supreme Court upheld the sentence.
Japarov was arrested on March 25, 2017 on suspicion of the organization of violent protests in October 2013 in the Issyk-Kul region.
