Five women officers of the Kyrgyzstan Defence Forces picked up rifles and fired shots at the target at the Officers Training Academy, Chennai. Weapons training is one of the many activities undertaken by the five Kyrgyz women officers for the past two weeks at OTA.
The officers have been training in activities such as obstacle course, weapons training, lecture and demonstrations on tactical subjects, swimming and equestrian.
The officers have experience of 7 to 17 years and are ranked from Lietunant to Lieutenant Colonel.
Their training will end in the first week of May.
Military cooperation The training is part of efforts between India and Kyrgyzstan to strengthen military cooperation between the two countries.
"The training is an effort to reinforce the friendship between the two militaries. They have come here for three weeks to acquaint themselves with the various methodologies and training practices followed for all the cadets and for lady cadets in particular, said Captain Radhika Jaggi, Platoon Commander, Officers Training Academy.
Separate training "We will go and explain about the training to officers in our country. There is a difference here as the lady cadets are trained separately and it is good," one of the Kyrgyz officers told the media.
Capt. Radhika said the training modules in the two countries were different.
"The process here is we train the lady cadets and then they go into their units, whereas in their country they directly join the units and they are trained as per the unit. They don’t have a separate training unit for the lady cadets," she said.
