Jeenbekov and Xi Jinping agreed to intensify China-Uzbekistan-Kyrgyzstan railway project

Bishkek, May 2, 2019 / Kabar /. Kyrgyz President Sooronbay Jeenbekov and Chinese Chairman Xi Jinping discussed the construction of a railway from China to Uzbekistan through Kyrgyzstan, Chinese Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan Du Deven told at a press conference in Bishkek.
She said that she took part in the negotiations of the two leaders in Beijing as part of Jeenbekov’s participation in the Second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, where the issue of building a railway was discussed.
"The negotiations on this topic have begun long ago. They began when I was heading the department of Central Asia at the Foreign Ministry of China, and now I’m already an ambassador. More than 20 years have been talking. This time the sides held talks and agreed that the parties' experts intensify and begin to thoroughly work out this issue," she explained.
Du Dewen added that China will not impose its own conditions in the framework of the project. She stated that the railway should be built according to standards and requirements.
