State prison service, Saudi Embassy agree to construct rehab center for deradicalization and re-socialization of convicts

AKIPRESS.COM - State Penitentiary Service of Kyrgyzstan and the Saudi Embassy agreed to construct a rehabilitation center for deradicalization and re-socialization of convicts.
State Penitentiary Service chief Melis Turganbayev and Ambassador of Saudi Arabia Abdulrahman bin Saeed Al-Juma'ah discussed fight against extremism and terrorism.
Turganbayev told about measures of prisons on deradicalization of convicts. He said for the first time, the State Penitentiary Service hired theologians, and soon with the help of the UNOD a production workshop will be opened in prisons for inmates convicted for extremism and terrorism. In cooperation with the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Kyrgyzstan, awareness raising campaigns are organized among the convicts, he said.
Ambassador of Saudi Arabia Abdulrahman bin Saeed Al-Juma'ah, for his part, said his country has a rich experience in the fight against extremism and terrorism. He confirmed readiness to cooperate in this battle.
The parties agreed on the construction of the training center for the State Penitentiary Service employees and a rehabilitation center for inmates convicted for terrorism and extremism.
