Tajik president publicly questions and fires customs officer

AKIPRESS.COM - President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon publicly questioned an employee of customs service Shahboza Radjabzoda and fired him for lying about his wealth during the May 10 meeting with bank, tax and customs workers, Tajikistani media reported. Radjabzoda held his post for 1 year and 8 months. The head of the state asked how many cars Radjabzoda purchased during this time. The customs employee replied that only one, to which Rahmon said that he lied, because he knew he bought two cars: one under his own name, another under different name.
Rahmon then asked about his graduation degree, to which the customs officer said that he graduated from the Russian diplomatic academy. Rahmon corrected him saying that he dropped out and never graduated.
Rahmon then demanded the customs officer to resign.
Rahmon pointed to the main problems in the banking, tax and customs sectors at the meeting.
