Security Council Secretaries of SCO member states discuss situation in Afghanistan

Bishkek, May 15, 2019. /Кабар/. One of the most important factors in preserving and strengthening security and stability in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) space is the earliest possible resolution of the situation in Afghanistan. This was announced following the meeting of the secretaries of the Security Councils of the SCO member states.
Secretary of the Security Council of Kyrgyzstan Damir Sagynbaev said that during the discussion of this agenda, participants of the meeting came to a decision on the importance of supporting the efforts of the government and the people of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, aimed at ensuring the security and economic development of the country, resisting terrorism, extremism and drug crime.
The Security Council secretaries also stressed the importance of the activities of the SCO Afghanistan contact group and supported the results of its regular meeting on April 19, 2019 in Bishkek.
The XIV meeting of the secretaries of the Security Councils of the countries participating in the SCO was held on May 14-15 in Bishkek. The heads of the delegations were received by President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov, and at the end of the meeting they signed the protocol of the meeting.
It should be noted that this year Kyrgyzstan chairs the SCO. The next meeting of the Security Council secretaries of the participating countries of the organizations will be held in 2020 in Russia.
