Hyundai plans to produce electric vehicles in Uzbekistan

Production localization is an important direction for the automotive industry development in Uzbekistan.
South Korean company Hyundai plans to annually produce up to 10,000 electric vehicles in Uzbek Kokand city, AzerNews reported citing to Uzbek media.
The project cost is $300 million, and the first electric car production is expected by 2023.
Cars mass production will be organized in the "Kokand" free economic zone. Plant construction with a capacity of 10,000 electric vehicles per year is expected to begin in 2021.
The project involves South Korean Hyundai, Evergreen Motors (the official distributor of KIA and Hyundai in the CIS), the Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade and the Fergana region administration. As a result of the project implementation, as many as 1,000 jobs will be created.
This is not the first Hyundai project in the automotive industry of Uzbekistan. The company will also set up the trucks assembly with a capacity of one to 50 tons, intercity and tourist buses, as well as special vehicles in the Namangan region.
Hyundai Auto Asia is the official distributor of the Hyundai brand in Uzbekistan. The autocomplex sells cars, provides warranty service, professional maintenance, repair and restoration works, sale of original spare parts, components and accessories for Hyundai cars.
