ABU DHABI, 19th May, 2019 (WAM) -- On 21st May, the UAE will celebrate World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development to highlight its efforts in promoting tolerance and cultural diversity.
The event will coincide with the country’s declaration of 2019 as the Year for Tolerance and its hosting of many related events, such as the Human Fraternity Meeting held in February between His Holiness Pope Francis, Head of the Catholic Church, and Dr. Ahmed el-Tayeb, Grand Imam of Al Azhar, which witnessed the signing of the Human Fraternity Document.
The UAE’s cultural diversity drives its economic, social and intellectual development, in light of the presence of over 200 nationalities living together in harmony.
Since the country’s establishment, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan entrenched a culture of love and peaceful coexistence in the UAE, making it a model of political stability, moderation and respect for personal freedoms.
The UAE’s cultural diversity is based on the values of tolerance engrained in its government work, that lead to the establishment, in 2017, of the first Ministry of Tolerance. Social justice, rule of law and social equality in the UAE also strengthen its cultural diversity.
The young nation has succeeded in dealing with all forms of cultural globalisation through science and intellect, and its communities are living a unique and luxurious lifestyle that has made it the most desirable destination for Arab youth to live and work in for the eight consecutive year, according to an Arab youth opinion poll conducted by 'ASDA'A BCW' in 2019.
The UAE has cultural relations with many countries and is an active member of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation, UNESCO.
