Bishkek, May 22, 2019. / Kabar/. Kyrgyzstan has consistently advocated the deepening of cooperation within the CSTO and the further strengthening of relations between the members of the Organization, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Chingiz Aidarbekov said at a press briefing following the meeting of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the CSTO, which was held in Bishkek.
He said that in a narrow composition a productive and thorough conversation was held. "We confirmed our readiness for closer foreign policy coordination on all issues of mutual interest," he said.
Aidarbekov said that the main attention was paid to the implementation of the priorities of the CSTO, voiced by the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sooronbay Jeenbekov at last year’s session of the CSTO Collective Security Council in Nur-Sultan city. The results of work were summed up in countering modern challenges and threats, strengthening the military component of the CSTO, expanding cooperation in foreign policy interaction, preventing crisis situations, improving the preparation and use of the collective force of the CSTO, developing military-economic and military-technical cooperation and information ensuring the activities of the CSTO. In addition, we heard the information of the Acting Secretary General of the Organization, Valery Simirikov, on the activities of the CSTO in the light of the actual challenges and threats to security and measures to improve it. And also about the documents submitted for signing the CSTO Ministerial Council," said Aidarbekov.
The Kyrgyz minister noted that all the heads of the foreign affairs agencies were in favor of a comprehensive dialogue aimed at strengthening the international security system.
"In the context of countering challenges and threats, a list of additional measures aimed at reducing tensions on the Tajik-Afghan border has been approved, which presupposes the creation of conditions for the formation of stability and security on this site, as well as hanging the effectiveness of coordination of the CSTO member states in the Central Asian region," he said.
Aidarbekov stressed that in order to form a common antiterrorist space within the CSTO, as part of the international system of global counteraction to terrorism, a draft collective action plan of the CSTO member states to implement the UN global counter-terrorism strategy for 2019-2020 was approved.
The minister noted that following the CSTO Ministerial Council meeting, 10 documents were signed, including a protocol decision to hold the next meeting of the CSTO Ministerial Council in Bishkek in the second half of this year.
