More funds to be allocated from budget to solve problem of drinking water, President

Bishkek, May 23, 2019. /Kabar/. The republican budget will allocate even more funds to solve the problem of providing the population with clean drinking water, Kyrgyz President Sooronbay Jeenbekov told during the Forum "Clean Water for Regions."
According to President’s data, rehabilitation of water supply systems in 24 towns and 248 villages will be carried out in the country in the next five years, and building water supply systems in 369 villages, where they were previously absent, is planned.
"There are also funds from the republican budget to address this issue in addition to the support of international financial institutions. Whereas in 2014, 25 million soms were allocated from the republican budget to address the problem of clean drinking water, in 2018 this amount was increased to 250 million soms," the President said.
Also during the Forum the Kyrgyz Leader cited reasons for the less successful implementation of the Clean Water project.
"Inefficient use of funds and corrupt practices were the reason for the less successful implementation of the first phase of the Clean Water project in Kyrgyzstan," Sooronbay Jeenbekov said.
"All public authorities involved in this issue should take personal responsibility for the quality of the water supply systems. Unfortunately, we have data that there are a lot of shortcomings and flaws in the preparation and implementation of projects of clean water despite the taken measures," the President said.
He stressed that many ideas and promising initiatives of donors remain unfulfilled due to the sluggishness of central and local authorities. This is reflected in the delay in the process of project preparation and in the ratification of loan and grant agreements in the parliament, sometimes even up to five years.
