New era of media cooperation in SCO space - Jeenbekov on possibilities of Media Forum in Bishkek

Bishkek, May 24, 2019. / Kabar /. The Bishkek Media Forum of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) can open a new era of media interaction in its common space, President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sooronbay Jeenbekov made such expectations speaking at the opening of the forum.
He informed that a strong institution has emerged in Kyrgyzstan, both in state and independent media.
"In our country, a special attitude to the press - they trust it and listen to it, because the freedom of speech and independence of the position of a journalist are long-cultivated traditions of our society. Our press is the voice of civil society and determines the public mood. It is also a reliable mediator of the dialogue between citizens and the government. We have all the decisions made, thanks to journalists, become public knowledge," said Jeenbekov.
The president called the Media Forum an excellent opportunity to communicate with each other, and search for new ways of cooperation not only in the political and economic spheres, but also in the media.
"The SCO was born in the era of total informatization and development of communication. The current stage of development of the Organization is in the period of rapid development of information technologies and an unprecedented growth of the influence of the media on public consciousness. At the same time, I would like to note that the level of awareness of the Organization’s activities, its cumulative potential, the results of multilateral cooperation and achievements, plans and prospects remains low not only in the world, but also in the SCO countries," Jeenbekov noted.
Therefore, he noted that, this Media Forum should become a unique platform for exchanging opinions and developing a common information strategy and strengthening the image of the SCO in the international community.
