Bishkek, May 30, 2019. /Kabar/. The regular session of the Kyrgyzstan-European Union Dialogue on Human Rights ended in Brussels on May 27, 2019.
The Kyrgyz delegation was headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Azizbek Madmarov, and the European delegation was led by Boris Yaroshevich, Head of the Central Asia Department of the European External Relations Service, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.
The sides considered a wide range of topics on the human rights agenda, both in Kyrgyzstan and EU, including further strengthening of national institutions for the protection of human rights in Kyrgyzstan, administration of justice and judicial reform, prevention of torture, freedom of speech, media and assembly, women’s rights, protection of children’s rights, good governance, including the rights of minority groups members, combat discrimination. The session participants also discussed GSP+ monitoring, cooperation with the EU and international organizations. The European side confirmed its readiness to continue cooperation on the EU Rule of law program, in particular assistance in judicial reform and actions of law enforcement bodies.
The sides agreed to hold next Kyrgyzstan- EU Dialogue on Human Rights in Kyrgyzstan in 2020.
The Dialogue on Human Rights aims to contribute to the development of a common understanding of human rights policy and its development, identifying ways to improve the protection and promotion of human rights, including the implementation of cooperation programs with the EU and projects which will be supported by the EU.
