Kyrgyzstan to host Festival of National Sports and Games of CIS countries

Bishkek, June 10, 2019. /Kabar/. The II Festival of National Sports and Games of the Commonwealth of Independent States will be held from September 4 to 9 this year in Issyk-Kul, Deputy Director of the State Agency for Youth Affairs, Physical Culture and Sports of Kyrgyzstan Kanatbek Arpachiyev said in his keynote speech at the meeting of the Council on Physical Culture and Sports in Kazakhstan.
"Competitions will be held in such sports as Kyrgyz wrestling, toguz corgool, tug of war, sambo, mass-wrestling and arm wrestling at the venue of the III World Nomad Games. The cultural program includes performances of folk groups, tasting of national cuisine, fairs, thematic exhibitions, demonstration of nomadic culture and traditions of the Kyrgyz people, Arpachiyev said.
Arpachiyev invited the attendees to visit the games, participants of meeting thanked for the organization and approved its provisions.
Kyrgyz wrestling is one of the oldest Kyrgyz belt wrestling, in which wrestlers stand opposite each other on a special carpet and hold the grip on the opponent’s belt with both two hands. The one who can throw the opponent on the shoulder blades and is the winner.
Toguz korgool is a two-player game on a board with two rows of nine holes.There are two "kazna" between these rows, which are used to collect captured stones of each user, separately. At the beginning there are nine stones in each hole, except the kazna, which are empty, so players need a total of 162 stones.
