Bishkek, June 14, 2019. /Kabar/. The meeting of the heads of state of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) has begun in a wide format.
The event traditionally began with a co-photography and a handshake ceremony. The leaders held talks in a narrow format. Then the meeting continued in a wide format, where heads of the SCO observer states and international organizations joined them.
Following the summit, 20 cooperation documents are expected to be signed, including the Bishkek Declaration and other cooperation documents in various fields.
The SCO consists of 8 countries: India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan. Four countries have observer status: Afghanistan, Belarus, Iran and Mongolia.
Presidents of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbay Jeenbekov, Russia Vladimir Putin, Kazakhstan Kassym-Joomart Tokayev, Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Tajikistan Emomali Rakhmon, Iran Hassan Rouhani, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan are participating in the summit. Presidents of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, Mongolia Khaltmaagiin Battulga, Afghanistan Ashraf Gani Ahmadzai are attending as observer states. The United Nations Deputy Secretary General Rosemary DiCarlo, Acting Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization Valery Semerikov, Chairman of the Commonwealth of Independent States Executive Committee Sergey Lebedev, and Chairman of the Eurasian Economic Commission Tigran Sargsyan are attending from international organizations.
More than 500 foreign and local journalists are covering the summit of SCO in Bishkek .
Note that this year Kyrgyzstan chairs in the SCO.
