SCO demonstrates to world new format of international cooperation - Jeenbekov

Bishkek, June 14, 2019. / Kabar /. Kyrgyz President Sooronbay Jeenbekov delivered keynote speech at the opening of the extended meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit.
In his speech, he noted that, given the large-scale and fruitful preparatory work carried out, today's meeting will be very successful.
"At the just-held meeting of the heads of the SCO member states in a narrow format, we approved the summit’s agenda and the list of documents to be signed. We exchanged views on topical issues of the Organization and the international agenda, summed up the results of the work on the practical implementation of the agreements reached at the SCO Summit in Qingdao in 2018. Taking this opportunity, I want to thank Secretary General of the Organization Vladimir Norov and all those who worked hard during the year to prepare the documents that are being adopted today," he said.
The head of state noted that in the conditions of a changing international situation, the SCO is demonstrating to the world community a new format of international interaction.
"Each state has its own vote and the decision is taken in a coordinated manner - by consensus. The openness of our organization makes it attractive. The SCO area expands every year. Occupying a huge space in Eurasia - following the principles of the SCO Charter, the Shanghai spirit, the SCO will in the future be able to become a platform for building a multipolar world. Together we form a center for making coordinated, responsible and significant decisions in Eurasia," the president added.
Sooronbay Jeenbekov also summed up the summary of the time since the Qingdao summit and outlined a vision for future prospects.
"The past year has demonstrated the inviolability of the basic principles of the SCO. We show an example of mutual understanding and cohesion, forming a new image of an international organization. It is fully consistent with the generally accepted goals and principles of international law enshrined in the UN Charter and other UN documents. Active work was carried out in all areas of the organization. In the field of security in the region, we can note the further effective work of the Regional Antiterrorist Structure, the entry into force of the 2017 Convention on countering extremism. The SCO agenda has much in common with the UN agenda. These are security issues, economic development issues, and human dimension issues. Effective cooperation with international structures in the fight against drug trafficking, including with UN structures, continues," the president said.
He recalled that last November, Kyrgyzstan held a special high-level event "UN-Shanghai Cooperation Organization: Cooperation Aimed at Strengthening Peace, Security and Stability".
Note that the SCO summit is taking place in Bishkek. Kyrgyzstan this year is chairing in the organization.
