AKIPRESS.COM - Situation in Afghanistan requires a close attention. Afghanistan needs support in achievement of the national reconciliation and economic reconstruction, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at the SCO Summit today in Bishkek. "We fully support the plan on expansion of cooperation of the Organization with Afghanistan in security, economic and humanitarian areas, which is reflected in the road map to be signed today. We aim to support more active work of the SCO-Afghanistan Contact Group," Putin said and added much work should be carried out during Russia's SCO Chairmanship on resolution of crisis situations and regulation of conflicts.
Putin said real results were achieved in fight against international terrorism in Syria. The process of political regulation is in progress, the new constitutional committee of Syria is being formed, he added.
The primary task for now is to ensure full liquidation of terrorists remaining in some areas of Syria, Putin said. At the same time he emphasized importance of humanitarian assistance and economic reconstruction of Syria by the international community.
Putin expressed concerns over Iran's nuclear program. Withdrawal of the United States from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, which was unanimously approved by UN Security Council in 2015, not only destabilizes the situation in the region, but can undermine non-proliferation of nuclear weapons, President Putin emphasized.
