Bishkek, June 14, 2019. /Kabar/. The 19th Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) has ended in Bishkek.
Presidents of Russia Vladimir Putin, Kazakhstan Kassym-Joomart Tokayev, Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Tajikistan Emomali Rakhmon, Iran Hassan Rouhani, Chinese Chairman Xi Jinping, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan took part in the meeting.
In addition, Presidents of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, Mongolia Khaltmaagiin Battulga, Afghanistan Ashraf Gani Ahmadzai attended as observer states. The United Nations Deputy Secretary General Rosemary DiCarlo, Acting Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization Valery Semerikov, Chairman of the Commonwealth of Independent States Executive Committee Sergey Lebedev, and Chairman of the Eurasian Economic Commission Tigran Sargsyan attended from international organizations.
In the course of the meeting, the sides discussed a wide range of issues in an extended format. In particular, the participants addressed regional security issues, including the leaders' desire for a peaceful settlement of the situation in Afghanistan, as well as the issues of digitalization and improvement of the SCO legislation. Proposals to improve the activities of the organization and its member states were voiced.
For example, Kyrgyz President Sooronbay Jeenbekov proposed in his speech the creation of the SCO body to combat economic crime.
About 20 documents were signed following the meeting.
Next SCO Summit will be held in Russia in 2020.
