Bishkek, June 20, 2019. /Kabar/. Deputy Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Altynay Omurbekova held meeting with the World Health Organization (WHO) mission on implementation of programs on health care system, the press service of the Government reported.
Omurbekova pointed to the significant role and support of the WHO in the ongoing reforms, noting there are significant changes in the Kyrgyz health system.
The deputy prime minister informed the mission about the adopted Program on protection of population's health and development of health care system till 2030.
Omurbekova told about the Public Health program, under which the Kyrgyz Health Ministry has developed a roadmap for early detection and prevention of various diseases and focused on the issue of early detection and treatment of children’s cancer, noting that there are a number of problems in this sphere.
In this regard, the Health Ministry applied to the Health Organization for support.
Representatives of the mission said two experts of the WHO will arrive in the country in August 2019 to support the reforms.
The WHO mission member Lucianne Licari said they are aware of the changes in the national system, noting the positive changes.
"However, there are still a number of problematic issues that require reforms. I believe other ministries and departments, along with the relevant department, should be involved in the process of reforming the health care system," she added.
At the same time, the mission representatives pointed out the need to inform the population about the principles of a healthy lifestyle and its importance for health.
"The health care system has undergone some changes since 1991. However, we are still looking for a better model. Our goal is to create a health care system, where citizens will be provided with quality, qualified medical care, with an emphasis on prevention," Deputy Prime Minister Omurbekova said.
The WHO is a specialized agency of the United Nations that is concerned with international public health. It was established on 7 April 1948, and is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. The WHO is a member of the United Nations Development Group.
