Criminal probe launched against ex-Prosecutor General of Uzbekistan

AKIPRESS.COM - A criminal probe was launched against ex-Prosecutor General of Uzbekistan Otabek Murodov, Uzbekistani President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said during the Senate session on June 21.
Murodov is accused of "$100,000, $50,000 bribery", according to the Uzbek leader. Murodov was fired as Prosecutor General of Uzbekistan on June 20. He held this post since January 2018.
Mirziyoyev said the system needs to be cleared of corrupt officials and vowed lengthy prison terms for ex-General Prosecutor Rashitjon Kadirov and ex-Chairman of the State Security Service Ikhtiyor Abdullayev who were accused of power abuse and bribery.
The new Prosecutor General of Uzbekistan Nigmatilla Yuldashev must break the "corrupt system of prosecution bodies" and show first results already in 6 months. "Maybe there will be job cuts in the prosecution bodies, maybe some part will be transferred to the Justice Ministry," he added.
