Bishkek, June 24, 2019. /Kabar/. The National Center for the Prevention of Torture has conducted more than 5,000 preventive visits over the past seven years, Dinara Sayakova, the Deputy Director of the National Center told during the press conference at Kabar News Agency.
For all the activities of the National Centre, more than 5,000 preventive visits have been conducted since 2013. Of these, 55 per cent were in institutions subordinate to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and 24 per cent in the State Service of Punishment and Execution (SSEP).
She also added that that in 2018, the NCPT has received 238 complaints, of which 138 were for torture and 32 for ill-treatment. The deputy director noted that most of the complaints accounted for police officers.
"27 applications of torture and 14 allegations of ill-treatment were received in five months of 2019. I would like to note that last year 31 acts of such violations were drawn up and sent to the prosecutor's office," the deputy director said.
